This year, I had the privilege of representing Parsons at the British Columbia Water & Wastewater Association (BCWWA) Associate Annual General Meeting. Held in Penticton, BC, the event brought together leaders, operators, and innovators from across the province. It featured a strong lineup of educational sessions — including mine — focused on the growing cybersecurity challenges facing modern water and wastewater systems.
My presentation explored why IT/OT convergence is expanding the attack surface, who is targeting critical water infrastructure, and the practical measures utilities can implement today to strengthen resilience. From risk registers that turn cybersecurity into business‑level decision‑making to segmentation strategies that limit lateral movement, the session emphasized one core message: safeguarding water systems is essential to public safety, and modernization must be matched with security.
